Advanced Writing Seminar

Advanced Writing Seminar programs are immersive one- or two-week pre-college experiences for dedicated teen writers. Our flagship program is the two-week residency with a multi-genre portfolio curriculum. We also have a one-week full-day immersive program in both Manhattan and Tenleytown, as well as a two-week Novel Writing program online. 

Acceptance for all programs is application-only. We review applications starting January 15th, 2025 as they come in and offer spots on a rolling basis. The final deadline for applications is May 15th, 2025. Please email teenprograms@writopialab.org for more information.

Advanced Writing Seminar: The Residency in NYC

Sunday, July 13th to Saturday, July 26th, 2025

Join Writopia Lab for an immersive two weeks of writing in the heart of New York City! We are happy to announce our new partnership with the Pratt Institute in the uber-hip/richly historic Clinton Hill neighborhood of Brooklyn. Our university-based program will be located at 135 Emerson Place, Brooklyn, New York 11205.

Developed for dedicated teen writers, the Advanced Writing Seminar Residency in NYC features a multi-genre portfolio curriculum, and is open to rising high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors, and to rising college freshmen.

Writers will spend their mornings in intimate writing workshops led by published authors and produced playwrights. Most afternoons will be spent in Master Classes with experts in genre (screenwriting, speculative fiction, poetry, mystery, etc.). Afternoons and evenings will be spent expanding their writing horizons and exploring everything a global publishing capital like New York City has to offer!

Advanced Writing Seminar: Full-Day Sessions

 Monday, July 7th to Friday, July 11th, 2025

Join us in New York or DC for five weekday sessions, focusing on expanding your writing portfolio led by a published author. 

Time: 10 AM to 5 PM ET

Advanced Writing Seminar: Online Novel Writing

Monday, July 28th to Friday, August 8th, 2025 

Join us online for 10 weekday sessions focusing on novel writing, led by a published author. 

Time: Monday through Friday, 1 PM to 4 PM Eastern Time (No workshops on Saturday or Sunday)
